New clay pigeon shooting courses launched at the Wild Boar Inn Grill and Smokehouse this August.
There will be four sessions running each Saturday throughout August. In the beautiful Gilpin Valley woodland near Windermere. The clay pigeon shooting will be held at the Wild Boar Inn, which recently underwent a major refurbishment to restore it to its former glory as a traditional coaching inn. The Wild Boar Inn has a purpose built shooting range in its own private 72 acre wood.
Each session costs just £39.00 per person and can be booked via the Wild Boar Inn on 015394 45225.
An instructor will be able to help those new to clay pigeon shooting to develop their technique. You’ll be able to have a go at shooting at clays that are thrown in a variety of trajectories, angles, speeds, elevations and distances to simulate live quarry shooting. Hence some of the names commonly used such as springing teal, driven pheasant, bolting rabbit, crossing pigeon, and dropping duck.
The times of the sessions each Saturday in August are:
- 10.00 – 10.45
- 11.15 – 12.00
- 13.00 – 13.45
- 14.15 – 15.00
On other days during the year clay pigeon shooting and archery courses are available for groups on request. Anyone who would like further information should contact the hotel.
The Wild Boar is also the first Lake District inn or hotel to have its own smokehouse. As well as smoking meat, fish and cheese on site the Wild Boar serves a wide range of local produce and beers.
Anyone taking part in the courses can also book for a meal either at lunchtime or in the evening.
The Wild Boar also has 17 individu ally designed rooms with different features such as copper baths and log fires, as well as modern touches such as iPod docking ports and an additional 16 standard rooms.
Set in the picturesque Gilpin Valley the Wild Boar Inn takes its name from the local legend of Sir Richard de Gilpin who bravely fought and killed a particularly ferocious wild boar there.
