Burns Night Whisky Tasting at The Wild Boar

It is a chance for you to create your own memories and stories in the future, and know that your bottle will always be here waiting for you on your next visit (until you finish it of course!).

Unique Charity Firewalking Event at Lancaster House

On the 23rd February 2010, starting from 7pm, Lancaster House will play host to a unique charity firewalking event. The night will start off with the firewalking experts, BLAZE who will guide you through a 2 hour fear busting seminar, before walking 20 foot of hot, fiery coals at 9pm. Anyone wanting to watch is very welcome, there will be food and drink available on the night.

If you would like to take part in this fantastic event, please email lancasterhouse@englishlakes.co.uk or telephone 01524 844822 and request to speak to Katie Bradshaw, a £10 registration fee is payable and the event organisers request that you raise a minimum of £100 in sponsor money. To make this ambitious event happen we require a minimum of 30 participants.

All proceeds and sponsorship from your participation in this exciting challenge will be donated to Children Today to purchase vitally-needed equipment which will improve, assist and enhance the lives of children and young people living with disabilities.

The Wild Boar Nature Detective on ITV's 'The Lakes'

The ITV series 'The Lakes' returned to screens on Monday 3rd January with a new 12 part series. The 2011 series follows the same winning formula, with each episode following in the tracks of a variety of colourful individuals in around the Lake District National Park.

The new series should prove to be of particular interest to guests and staff of English Lakes as the series follows, Nature Detective, Andrew Mottram in the woods at The Wild Boar Inn. Andrew's enthusiastic interest and love of nature have been a lifelong passion and this wealth of experience and his character should make 'The Nature Detectives' exploits around the woods at the Wild Boar avid viewing.

The 2011 series of 'The Lakes' started on Monday 3rd January with Andrew being featured throughout the series. Please see the ITV schedule for further programme information and broadcast times.

£45,000 Fundraising Target Reached!

Congratulations and thanks to everybody that helped raise an incredible £45,000 in 2010 which will build and equip an orphan home in the Open Arms village in Eldoret, Kenya.  This has been a tremendous effort by all and the results will undoubtedly, and in a very real way, improve the lives of dozens of children for years to come.

The Open Arms fundraising project has clearly shown the dedication and care of the staff at English Lakes who have risen to the challenge with their usual enthusiasm and commitment. The list of activities undertaken this year demonstrates the creative energy that we have within the group:

Sponsored swimmers, face painting, aerobathon, boxing dinner, raffle, salary giving, learn-to-sail scheme, jumble sale, 3 peaks challenge, 5-aside football competition, sponsored walkers, country and western evening, cellar tours at Storrs, guess the baby’s weight, cake baking, cross bay walk, sponsored runners, Christmas gift fair, silent auction, staff raffle, pyjama party, beauty evening, Land’s End to John o’ Groats static bike ride,  photo competition, car washing, Morrison’s collection, pub quiz, tuck shop … the list is long and impressive!

We hope that the building work on the orphan home will start in Spring 2011 – watch this space for more details.
